"The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." -Luke 10:2
As Christian Stewards of the gifts God has given us, we are called to
reflect God's love in our community. We are called to love as Jesus
loved—to serve as Jesus served. This means we have a responsibility
to reflect the Gospel in our work in or outside the home, in our
streets and in our neighborhoods. We can contribute to the peace
and security of the world by offering loving service to
others...even if it's simply by smiling in return for a frown.
Each day, parishes and communities are blessed by the generosity of
their people; stewards who seek opportunities to serve. One might
be a father drawing chalk lines on a town soccer field after work;
another, a mother on the finance committee working on a parish
budget. There may be a teenager serving as a lector at Mass or a
woman volunteering at a Christian crisis pregnancy center.
In our nation, earlier generations of Catholics used shovels and plows
to dig foundations for their churches. We can help build upon their
dedication by lending our hands and our hearts to our church. In
addition, we can intensify the light of Christ they carried by
shining it forth as Christians who are visibly helping in all areas
of community life.
This, then, is our opportunity to become part of God's great
promises, to us and to all people. We know God will continue to
bless us for sharing His gifts in our parish and our community.
We are all Blessed with Talents
Parishioners can serve God in countless ways; every parishioner at
any age has at least one gift to share with the parish and the
community. This is the time as good and faithful stewards, to
commit our talents to the work God would have us do here—now—as we
are and who we are. Because those talents will help bring Jesus'
healing touch to a world in need. Consider these opportunities for
sharing your talent...
